Synopsis/Description: Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.
By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.

Review: This is NOT my type of book. I don't like witches very much (read: at all) but the books I had ordered hadn't come yet and this was right in front of me, in Portuguese, in the store and my instincts took over, ie, I grabbed the book and ran to my parents to beg them for it. So, yeah, I was desperate.

So I was surprised to find out I kind of liked Hex Hall. Hawkins created a really cool place for Prodigium to be, and a really nice love interest.

Sophie is a likable character, and she is very funny, which is always a bonus so she's a good heroine. Her decision in the end surprised me, but somehow it sounded a little bit forced.
Archer is odd, from the beginning, I wasn't understanding him, but then a piece of foreshadowing made my brain work and it all fit in, which means in the end, I was not surprised. Needless to say, I thought it was quite predictable.

Overall, it was enjoyable, but I have read some other better things. It is very funny so I'd recommend it if you want to laugh. And if you like this kind of things, of course.

Quotes from book:
"Good luck explaining to God that you used to spank one of his heavenly beings."
Mom gave a startled laugh. "Sophie!"
"What? You did. I hope you like hot weather, Mom, that's all I'm saying."

"Sophia Mercer," Elodie intoned, "we have come to induct you into our sisterhood. Say the five words to begin the ritual."
I blinked at her. "Are you freaking kidding me?"
Anna gave an exasperated sigh. "No, the five words are 'I accept you offer, sisters."
